BEN LUXTON scored a superb second place podium finish in the Pirelli 600 Superstock National Championship at the 10th round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park yesterday.

Qualifying ninth, Ben benefited from a wet race and used all his race craft to beat all but one of the riders ahead of him at his home round.
Ben takes 20 points from his home circuit and moves up to P8 on the leader-board with 78 points, despite only having returned to Superstock 600 in June.
“We had an amazing weekend,” said Ben. “We struggled for a lot of it. We had a few issues in qualifying and we knew we had a lot to do in the dry.
“Ten minutes before the race, the heavens opened. There was a frantic rush to get the wet tyres on and sort out the suspension settings. The team did an amazing job to get me on the grid. I felt really confident as I knew I had the pace in the wet to keep up with the front-boys.
“I had to get a good start from P9 and I did just that. I aimed straight for the outside and passed three or four around the first corner. I got stuck in and passed a few around Shell Oils. The front four were pulling away and had 1-second on me. I dug deep to get onto the podium. I caught my team-mate – Milo Ward – and we had a good battle; he was riding really well. I found the pace to pass him after three or four manoeuvres. I had good pace to chase the leader but I decided to stay calm, not to push on too hard and to avoid making any silly mistakes.
“It was really good to finish second here. It’s my home circuit and I’m not bothered by rain. I’m a thinking rider and I’ve really developed this side of my riding. I’m in a much better place now. Considering this is a partial season for me and we weren’t expecting to make an impression on the Championship, it’s gone well. I just need to stay in the right frame of mind and keep enjoying my racing.
“Big thanks to Joe Richardson for his mechanical assistance and to Paul Ward of Direct Packaging Solutions. Thanks also to Chris, Alan, Greg and all at G&S Racing, and to my sponsors, Plantec Assist, Cool Milk and Knox Armour.”
